Dear colleagues,
Shawn Trondsen has been appointed Interim Vice Provost, Enrollment Management, effective September 4, 2025. As Interim Vice Provost, Shawn will oversee Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, University Registrar and the Veteran Benefits Office. After joining UC Irvine in 2017 as Associate Director of System Development, Shawn led the implementation of the Slate CRM system for Undergraduate Admissions. In 2019, he became Director of Systems and Operations, where he played a key role in advancing yield modeling and admissions selection processes while collaborating to modernize enrollment management systems. Prior to joining UC Irvine, Shawn served as Associate Director of Admission Communication at Chapman University. He holds an MBA from Chapman University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from California State University, Fullerton.
I would like to thank Patricia Morales for her outstanding service to UC Irvine as the Vice Provost, Enrollment Management (2019-2025) and as the Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions (2013-2018). Patty led Enrollment Management through a period of significant growth in the number of undergraduate students and undergraduate applications. The achievements of the Office of Enrollment Management contributed significantly to UC Irvine's ascendancy among U.S. research universities.
There are additional changes in leadership within the Office of Enrollment Management. Bryan Jue will serve as Interim Executive Director of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Since 2019, Bryan's leadership as Senior Director of Undergraduate Admissions Outreach and Communications has helped attract high-achieving undergraduate applicants to UC Irvine.
In addition, Crystal Madaule is serving as Acting Director of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. Crystal joined UC Irvine in 2020 with more than two decades of experience in private and public higher education, including leading financial aid at Vanguard University of Southern California and Loyola Marymount University. As Senior Associate Director, she helped lead the office in transitioning to modern systems and operations.
Please join me in thanking Shawn, Bryan and Crystal for serving in these important roles as we head into the 2025-26 academic year.
Sincerely,
Hal Stern
