Dear colleagues,

As part of continued efforts to align information technology (IT) services with UC Irvine's strategic goals, I write to provide an update on the recently conducted Campus IT Assessment.

In 2024, the campus engaged the consulting firm Deloitte to perform a comprehensive review of campus IT operations in alignment with UC Irvine's Financial Stability Plan. A steering committee representing unit-level IT and other campus stakeholders worked with Deloitte and helped guide the process, surfacing concerns and identifying opportunities for more efficient and effective service delivery. This review presented an opportunity to develop innovative solutions to emphasize efficiencies and re-evaluate workforce needs. Deloitte presented their recommendations to the steering committee and campus leadership this spring.

The assessment report outlines a set of forward-looking recommendations aimed at strengthening IT governance, increasing efficiency, and better meeting the evolving needs of our students, faculty, staff and researchers.

Key recommendations include:

  • Establishing a cohesive institution-wide IT governance model.
  • Revising the OIT organizational model.
  • Establishing standards and processes to support more effective and strategic IT procurement.
  • Standardizing IT job architecture and classification across campus.
  • Improving information security and centralizing key responsibilities.
  • Improving collaboration between campus IT and UCI Health IT.

For more information, please visit the IT Roadmap website. As the implementation phase begins, engagement with campus stakeholders will be essential to building a stronger, more agile and more integrated IT environment at UC Irvine.

Sincerely,

Hal Stern
