Dear colleagues,

Diane O’Dowd, Vice Provost for Academic Personnel and HHMI Professor of Developmental and Cell Biology, is planning to retire at the end of the 2023-24 academic year. To that end, I am asking for your assistance in nominating UCI Senate faculty members to be considered for the role of Vice Provost for Academic Personnel.

Reporting to me, the Vice Provost for Academic Personnel is the senior campus official responsible for Senate and non-Senate academic appointments, promotions and advancements; academic recruitment and retention; faculty development programs; negotiation and implementation of contracts for unionized academic employees; and oversight of academic personnel matters. In addition, the Vice Provost serves as a representative for the campus to the UC Office of the President, collaborates with their counterparts at other UC campuses, and works with select Academic Senate committees. The Vice Provost also works closely with the Office of Inclusive Excellence to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Full details on this recruitment, including a more complete position description, will be posted on the Provost’s Office Website. I encourage your nominations, including self-nominations, for this role. Please send nominations to provost@uci.edu.

Thank you in advance for your help with this process.

Sincerely,

Hal Stern
Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor
Chancellor's Professor, Department of Statistics
