Jul 19, 2022

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Patty Morales has been appointed Vice Provost, Enrollment Management, effective July 1, 2022. Patty joined UCI in 2013 as Executive Director, Undergraduate Admissions and she has served as Associate Vice Chancellor, Enrollment Management since 2018. Patty will continue to lead the offices of Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Registrar, and Enrollment Management Analytics.

Patty is recognized throughout UCI as an innovative, collaborative and strategic leader. Under her direction, the Division of Enrollment Management continues to develop and execute data-driven enrollment strategies that advance the university’s academic mission and commitment to inclusive excellence. During her tenure, the Division successfully replaced the previous undergraduate admissions system, launched a revamped financial aid management system and established the Enrollment Management Analytics unit.

Under Patty’s leadership, undergraduate applications have risen from approximately 82,000 in 2014 to more than 142,000 in 2022 – an 80% increase in freshman applications and a 44% increase in transfer applications. For the past six years, UCI has consistently occupied one of the top two positions among UCs for receiving the most California resident applications. During this time, UCI saw a 20% increase in undergraduate enrollment including high percentages of students who are the first generation in their family to attend college (47%), low-income students (31%), and underrepresented minority students (29%).

Patty serves on executive leadership committees for campus projects including Enterprise Student Management Systems, Comprehensive Analytics for Student Success, and the Student Data Warehouse. She regularly serves on a range of campus advisory committees and assists deans and other campus leaders in managing the impact and influence of enrollment across the university.

Patty’s career has spanned the field of education across enrollment management, teaching, research, and residential life at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Stanford University, F.W. Olin College of Engineering, and Phillips Exeter Academy. She earned a Ph.D. in History of Consciousness from University of California, Santa Cruz, an M.A. from the University of Chicago, an M.T.S. from Harvard Divinity School, and a B.A. from Boston College.

Please join me in thanking Patty for her continued leadership and contributions to UCI.

Sincerely,

Hal Stern
