Ian Gibson Appointed Interim Dean for Division of Continuing Education

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Associate Dean of Continuing Education Ian Gibson has been appointed Interim Dean of the Division beginning July 1, 2022 until Kristine Collins joins UCI on August 22, 2022.

Ian Gibson joined UCI in 2014 as an intellectual property and contract law instructor and was recruited to serve in a range of administrative roles supporting law, finance, leadership and international programs at the Division of Continuing Education. As Associate Dean, he oversees academic affairs for a large and diverse portfolio of educational programs for learners around the globe. These programs include dozens of certificate programs, unique collaborations with colleagues at UCI and at other UC campuses, and MOOCs that have reached more than 8 million enrollments.

Before joining UCI, Ian was an intellectual property attorney handling litigation and transactional matters in the areas of contracts, copyright, trademark, and entertainment law for a broad variety of clients. Prior to his career in law, Ian was a session musician and composer performing on high-profile projects including an Emmy award-winning soundtrack and internationally broadcast live performances.

Ian has served as a founding board member of multiple nonprofits providing artistic and cultural opportunities to amplify voices of creative professionals and community leaders in a variety of educational activities. Ian earned a J.D. from Chapman University’s Fowler School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California.

Please join me in thanking Ian Gibson for taking on this important role.

Sincerely,

Hal Stern
