Dear colleagues,
On behalf of Chancellor Gillman, I am pleased to announce that we are seeking applications for the next faculty director of Illuminations to begin July 1, 2022. Building on UCI’s excellence in arts and humanities programming, Illuminations has helped to ensure that all our students, regardless of major, have opportunities for meaningful exposure to arts and culture. More information on this initiative is available on the Illuminations website.
Interested faculty are invited to share their vision for leadership of the next chapter for Illuminations by submitting a CV and one-page statement of interest to Assistant Vice Chancellor of Strategic Initiatives Carol Jun at chjun@uci.edu by January 4, 2022.
On behalf of the entire UCI community, I want to thank founding director Julia Lupton, professor of English, for her leadership and service to the campus. Thanks to Professor Lupton’s hard work and dedication, Illuminations is a significant element of our thriving arts and culture community. Since 2014, she has brought extraordinary authors to campus, organized a myriad of events, and helped faculty connect students to arts and culture through programming of their own design. Professor Lupton will be stepping down as faculty director effective December 31, 2021 and taking a well-deserved sabbatical.
Please join me in extending our warmest appreciation to Professor Lupton for her exemplary service as founding director over the past seven years. I would also like to thank Daphne Lei, professor of drama, who will serve as interim director beginning January 1, 2022.
We look forward to supporting the next phase of Illuminations and welcome director applications from interested faculty.
Sincerely,Hal Stern Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Chancellor’s Professor, Department of Statistics
