On behalf of Provost Stern, I am pleased to announce that Paul Kang, Ph.D. has been named associate vice provost for academic planning effective October 18, 2021. He will serve as the campus Accreditation Liaison Officer for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) and as the central point for discipline-specific accreditation of professional programs campuswide.
Since 2011, Paul has held a range of academic and administrative roles at Chapman University. He currently serves as director of accreditation and assessment in the Office of the Provost. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the accreditation process, managing assessment projects, and facilitating data-informed decisions on institutional improvement initiatives and programs. In addition, he advises campus leadership on an array of programs designed to enable student success.
Paul also worked in the Donna Ford Attallah College of Educational Studies as director of program assessment and improvement, and as a research assistant professor and faculty associate. In addition, he taught graduate and undergraduate courses on an array of topics including research methods and conflict management.
He has research expertise on program assessment, organizational conflict, and effective teamwork in sports teams. His work has been published in a number of academic publications and he has served as a consultant for an NCAA Division I basketball team. He earned a Ph.D. and an M.A. in communication, with a specialization in organizational communication, from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a B.A. in English Literature from the University of California, Los Angeles.
I am grateful to the members of the search advisory committee and its chair, Richard Arum, dean of the School of Education, for their contributions to this search. In addition, I would like to extend my appreciation to Tracy Molidor, Ph.D., for her impactful service to UCI and wish her well in retirement.
