Dear colleagues,

Following a national search, I am pleased to announce that Kate Brigman has been named associate provost and chief of staff for the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, effective October 11, 2021.

Since 2012, Kate has held a range of administrative roles at UCI. Most recently, since 2018 she has served as executive director of the Academic Senate. In this role, she has been responsible for helping to advance shared governance on campus. She served as senior administrator and chief of staff, chief policy advisor to Senate leadership and committees, and as liaison to campus administration. She previously held academic affairs roles in the Graduate Division and the Department of History.

Kate earned a master’s in public administration at California State University, Long Beach and a bachelor’s in history from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

I am grateful to the members of the search advisory committee and its chair, Ramona Agrela, vice chancellor and chief human resources executive, for their contributions to this search. In addition, I would like to extend my appreciation to Dave Leinen for his service as interim associate provost and chief of staff since July 2020.

Please join me in congratulating Kate on her new role.

Sincerely,

Hal Stern
