Accreditation
UC Irvine is accredited through fall 2032 by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).
WSCUC is a regional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). They ensure that institutions of higher education develop and sustain effective educational programs and meet high standards of quality and effectiveness.
UC Irvine received initial accreditation on February 28, 1961.

Brief Summary of UC Irvine’s 2022-2023 Reaffirmation of Accreditation
Preparation for the reaffirmation began in July 2020 with the establishment of the Steering Committee on Reaffirmation (SCOR) and the Steering Committee on Reaffirmation Executive Committee (SCOREX), a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and administrators. As part of the self-study for WSCUC’s Thematic Pathway for Reaffirmation, SCOR/SCOREX chose the theme of promoting student success for an increasingly diverse student body and investigated the impact of inclusive learning experiences, participation in research, and participation in learning communities on academic success, well-being, and post-graduation preparation.
UC Irvine submitted its institutional self-study report on December 2022. In February 2023, the campus hosted a site visit by a team of reviewers selected by WSCUC from peer institutions to meet with students, faculty, staff, and administrators. In June 2023, the WSCUC Commission reviewed the team report, met with campus leadership, and concluded its review. In July 2023, the Commission reaffirmed UC Irvine’s accreditation for ten years.
The next reaffirmation of accreditation review will begin in fall 2032, with a site visit planned for spring 2033.
