Dear colleagues,
As we welcome our students back to campus this fall, we have many things to celebrate. In this quarter's newsletter you can read about numerous faculty and staff awards including UCI's seven Hellman Fellows, two new inductees into the American Academy of Nursing, and Wang Feng's election to Italy's national academy.
UCI received $580 million in grants and contracts for the 2021-22 fiscal year. Research teams led by UCI chemists received $25 million from the U.S. Department of Energy to explore new technologies for energy conversion, carbon capture and nuclear power. You can read more about this news and other notable research achievements below.
As part of our ongoing efforts to serve as a national leader in inclusive excellence, UCI became a founding member of the new Alliance of Hispanic Serving Research Universities, which aims to double the number of enrolled Hispanic doctoral students and increase the Hispanic professoriate by 20%.
Thank you for your hard work to prepare our campus for a successful 2022-23 academic year. I wish you a healthy and productive fall quarter.
