Dear campus community,

UCI students, faculty, and staff are invited to officially welcome the Inclusive Excellence Term Chairs in a public installation event. The virtual forum is scheduled 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m. on Monday, January 31.

Provost Hal Stern and I will officially welcome the inaugural cohort of Inclusive Excellence Term Chairs, hosted by the Office of Inclusive Excellence. After brief remarks and recognition, these exceptional UCI faculty members will dialogue about critical issues and their research to support Black thriving at UCI.

The chairs were appointed through competitive proposal review and selection. Their projects during three-year terms align to the UCI Black Thriving Initiative (BTI), developed to spearhead strategies to confront anti-Blackness and build university-wide capacities to mobilize the UCI community, advance understanding about the Black experience and drivers of well-being.

The inaugural Inclusive Excellence Term Chairs are:

Tonya Bradford, associate professor of marketing, Paul Merage School of Business

Kaaryn Gustafson, professor of law and director of the Center on Law, Equity and Race,  School of Law

Jessica Millard, associate professor, Departments of History and African American Studies, School of Humanities

Davin Phoenix, associate professor, Department  of Political Science, School of Social Sciences

Bryan Sykes, associate professor and Chancellor’s Fellow, Department of Criminology, Law & Society, School of Social Ecology

I look forward to seeing you and please review the event schedule for details at: https://inclusion.uci.edu/events/.
