ERI November Seminar Speaker: Cassandra Hart
The Education Research Initiative team is thrilled to introduce our next speaker in the ERI seminar series, Cassandra Hart, Associate Professor of Education Policy at the University of California, Davis. Professor Hart studies how school, state and national education programs, policies and practices may affect overall student achievement and the equity of student outcomes. Her talk, “Community Colleges and Instructional Responses to COVID-19,” will be held on Thursday, November 19 from 1-2 p.m. on Zoom.

Join the next ERI “In Progress” Talk on November 23
This month we are inviting the team led by School of Education Postdoctoral Researcher, Charlott Rubach. She was awarded an ERI grant last winter to investigate teaching quality and student motivation in online classrooms. Charlott will present the theoretical background and the methodological approach of the Improve project and will discuss future steps. The discussion will take place from Monday, November 23 from 10-11 a.m. on Zoom.

UCI Hosts Virtual SABER West Conference
Registration is now open for the fifth annual SABER (Society for the Advancement of Biology Education Research) West meeting to be held January 8, 15 and 22, 2021. SABER West is geared toward STEM educators and education researchers with meeting goals including:
· Increasing interactions among STEM educators and education researchers
· Fostering collaborations between 2-year and 4-year institutions
· Providing professional development to conduct education research and implement evidence-based teaching practices
This year’s meeting theme is Creating More Inclusive STEM Conferences and the program consists of a town hall, research talks, workshops and roundtable sessions. Meeting registration to the general sessions is free and will close on December 21. For more information, please see the conference website.
