Dear colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that SpaceIL co-founder Yonatan Winetraub will speak at UCI from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, as part of the Chancellor’s Distinguished Speaker Series.
SpaceIL is known for competing in the Google Lunar X Prize contest to land a robot on the moon through entrepreneurship, creativity and public-private collaborations. Its Beresheet lander was the first Israeli spacecraft to travel beyond Earth’s orbit.
A key goal of this mission was to inspire the next generation of space researchers and promote STEM education and scientific exploration. Yonatan will share insights from the experience and discuss how it has helped engage students in STEM.
The event is open to the public and UCI faculty, students and staff are encouraged to attend.

About Yonatan Winetraub
Yonatan has spoken about space technology and radical shifts in the space industry to audiences all over the world and has been featured in the Forbes Israel 30 Under 30 list and the Globes 40 under 40 list. In addition, he participated in an International Space University program exploring the creation of Martian colonies. Yonatan earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering and studied computational neuroscience at Tel Aviv University. In addition to his work with SpaceIL, he is currently a Ph.D. candidate in biophysics and a Bio-X Bowes Fellow at Stanford University.
