Dear colleagues,

The UCI Education Research Initiative invites you to attend a seminar with Dr. Susan Lord, Chair and Professor of Integrated Engineering and Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of San Diego.

Persistence in Engineering: Research and Reflections

3:30-4:30 p.m., May 23 at Calit2 3008

In this presentation, Dr. Lord will draw on her research with MIDFIELD (a large multi-institutional dataset) to explore how metaphors influence mindsets and metrics for studying persistence in engineering education focusing on pipeline, pathways, and ecosystems metaphors. In addition, Dr. Lord will share reflections from her own journey as a woman and an engineer who values inclusive and innovative teaching.

More information is available at S. M. Lord, M. W. Ohland, R. A. Layton, and M. M. Camacho, “Beyond Pipeline and Pathways: Ecosystem Metrics,” Journal of Engineering Education, 108(1), 32-56, 2019. https://doi.org/10.1002/jee.20250
