I write to update you on transition plans since the November announcement of UCI Chief Information Officer and Associate Vice Chancellor Dana Roode’s retirement on June 30.

Effective April 1, I am appointing Kian Colestock to serve as Interim Chief Information Officer. Kian currently serves as Associate Chief Information Officer and has been an integral member of the Office of Information Technology (OIT) leadership team since 2013. Prior to joining UCI, Kian served as Director of Business, Financial and University Systems at UC San Diego and in a range of information technology management roles spanning the past two decades.

This transition will allow Dana to serve in an advisory capacity for OIT while dedicating time and focus to the information technology needs of the College of Health Sciences. As information technology continues to evolve as a strategic asset to advance the mission and vision of UCI, this is the opportune time to identify and deploy IT systems that will optimize teaching, research, and patient care within the COHS and UCI Health. He will work closely with Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs Steven Goldstein and his team on IT infrastructure planning for building construction, staffing and systems.

A national search for our next CIO will be launched in the coming weeks. A search committee will soon be formed and we will seek input from across campus.

Please join me in congratulating Kian on his new role and in thanking Dana for his continued service to UCI.

Sincerely,

Enrique J. Lavernia, Ph.D.
Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor
Distinguished Professor, Department of Materials Science and Engineering
