Rignot and White Elected to National Academy of Sciences

May 1, 2018

Dear colleagues:

I am delighted to announce that two UCI faculty members – professors Eric Rignot and Steven White – have been elected to the prestigious National Academy of Sciences.

Rignot, chair and Donald Bren Professor of Earth system science, studies climate impacts on our planet’s polar ice regions. White is a professor of physics & astronomy whose research focuses on quantum mechanics, condensed matter physics and computational physics.

With this election, there are now 25 UCI faculty who hold NAS membership, which recognizes distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. To read more about Rignot’s and White’s appointment, see our press release here.

Please join me in congratulating our two colleagues on this outstanding accomplishment.

Sincerely,

Enrique J. Lavernia, Ph.D.
