I am pleased to announce that the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded a $10 million grant to the University of California in support of the UC Humanities Research Institute. The grant constitutes the initial funding for a $30 million permanent endowment for UCHRI. Further information can be found here.
Housed for 25 years on the UCI campus, UCHRI promotes excellence in humanities research through interdisciplinary collaboration and teaching across all 10 UC campuses and in their communities. UCHRI supports and showcases fellowships, working groups, seminars, conferences and workshops, and it administers the UC Humanities Network, a consortium of the UC campus-based Humanities Centers that supports, stimulates and facilitates excellence in humanities research across the University of California.
The investment by the Mellon Foundation is yet another recognition of our outstanding humanities faculty and their scholarship. We are grateful to David Theo Goldberg, UCI professor of comparative literature and anthropology and director of UCHRI, for his distinguished leadership of the institute and for his efforts that showcased UCHRI’s compelling excellence to the Mellon Foundation.
