I am pleased to announce a renewed campuswide emphasis on career development for our students and alumni. The UCI Career Center is being elevated to become the Division of Career Pathways and will be led by Associate Vice Provost Suzanne Helbig and report to Vice Provost for Career Pathways Gary Matkin. The new structure aligns with the vision recommended to me by a recent campus task force to create a career-community ecosystem encompassing UCI, our students and alumni, regional businesses, and organizations and other universities offering postgraduate opportunities. The ecosystem will:
Prepare students with a lifetime of career development skills and provide them with services at every stage of their careers.
Enable members of the career community to proactively assist each other through programs such as alumni mentoring of students.
Update services to better address the challenges of today’s undergraduate and graduate students who are seeking jobs or postgraduate education, as well as the challenges of the employers and institutions seeking them.
Support a strong UCI Career Pathways brand that promotes lifelong engagement between career services professionals and all members of the career-community ecosystem.
Please join me in thanking Vice Provost Matkin, Associate Vice Provost Helbig and our dedicated career-community staff for their efforts in realizing this new vision for supporting our students.
