Search for Dean, School of Humanities

On behalf of Chancellor Gillman, I am pleased to announce the formation of a search committee charged with assisting us in appointing a new dean for the School of Humanities. A national search will be conducted to identify the most qualified candidates for this position. The committee will evaluate nominees and make recommendations based on their suitability. Headed by Cécile Whiting, Chancellor’s Professor and chair in the Department of Art History, the committee also includes:

  • Bridget Cooks, associate professor and chair, Department of African American Studies, and associate professor, Department of Art History
  • David Goldberg, professor, Department of Comparative Literature and Department of Anthropology, and director, Humanities Research Institute
  • Michele Goodwin, Chancellor’s Professor, School of Law
  • Nancy Guerra, dean, School of Social Ecology
  • Rodrigo Lazo, associate professor, Department of English, and program director, Humanities Core
  • James Kyung-Jin Lee, associate professor, Department of Asian American Studies
  • Roger McWilliams, professor, Department of Physics & Astronomy, and associate dean of research and graduate studies, School of Physical Sciences
  • Maria Pantelia, professor, Department of Classics, and director, Thesaurus Linguae Graecae
  • Deborah Sunday, assistant dean, Claire Trevor School of the Arts
  • Michael Szalay, professor and chair, Department of English

We have engaged Isaacson, Miller, a nationally recognized academic search consultant, to assist the committee, which will begin deliberations soon.
