I am delighted to announce the new Office of Inclusive Excellence. This office will elevate UCI’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion among faculty, graduate students and undergraduates and advance our campus as a national leader and global model for inclusion.
Under the leadership of Douglas M. Haynes, Ph.D., vice provost for academic equity, diversity and inclusion, the OIE will oversee institutional accountability, mount education and training programs, conduct responsive research, and build partnerships with universities and colleges dedicated to inclusive excellence. This office will foster and fortify a campus culture in which faculty and students alike expect equity, support diversity and practice inclusion.
A professor of European history, Haynes brings a collaborative vision and relentless attention to this critical campus priority. He has played an essential role in the development of UCI’s signature ADVANCE program for faculty equity and diversity as well as the Diverse Educational Community and Doctoral Experience program. Both the UCI Academic Senate and the American Historical Association have recognized his many contributions on behalf of inclusive excellence.
